My story of redefining financial independence

My mother always told me I better marry for money because I needed someone to support my expensive tastes and desires. Her message made me feel small and less than capable, which didn’t suit my nature. I saw how my mother was so dependent on others to fulfill her life, and that was not acceptable to me. I was determined to create and design a life of my choosing.

This desire motivated me to develop a career in financial services. Through that experience, I realized my mother was not the only woman who ignored her financial life thinking money would just magically be there. I began to see there was a whole generation of women who were denied the ability to live their life by their design simply because they were typically disengaged and any attempts to become more involved resulted in feelings of total inadequacy.

I learned it wasn’t just the women ignoring their financial affairs, it was also an industry that pushed them into a corner marginalizing their abilities to make important financial decisions. I want to help women feel more confident in their decisions in life and in regards to decisions in investing. It is for this reason that the focus of my practice is to help women become more engaged, educated and empowered.

We founded McConnell Financial Advisors in 2009 on the principle of offering more than just investment advice but encouraging, educating, and empowering people who may not have had access to wealth or financial literacy their whole lives.

Renée McConnell

Financial Advisor, CRPC ®

Renée McConnell is a Registered Independent Advisor and a Certified Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC), a designation awarded after successful completion of the rigorous education, exam, experience and ethics requirements of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. Renée has been a licensed investment advisor since 1992. Before opening her own practice in 2009, she worked as a portfolio analyst and relationship manager for a local advisory firm. Prior to that, Renée worked for Charles Schwab as an investment and active trader specialist in Las Vegas, NV and Boise, ID. She lives in Boise, Idaho with her husband and four children. They enjoy skiing, cooking and eating together and traveling the world. Renée enjoys supporting the arts in Boise through Boise Contemporary Theatre, Shakespeare Festival, Boise Jazz Society and the Boise Chamber Music Series.
